KATOWICE (EuroBasket Women 2011) – The injury that forced Emmeline Ndongue off the court in the second quarter of France’s big win over Spain on Wednesday night has knocked her out of the EuroBasket Women.

The French Basketball Federation have announced that Ndongue hurt her Achilles tendon and will play no further part in the tournament.

"Emmeline Ndongue is one of our best players, especially on the defensive end," France coach Pierre Vincent said.

"This injury, therefore, is a big blow for us.”

Vincent nevertheless believes the team will be able to cope without Ndongue, who was a key player in the gold-medal run at the EuroBasket Women in Latvia two years ago.

After she departed against Spain, the frontline players Endene Miyem, Sandrine Gruda and Isabelle Yacoubou-Dehoui did very well against Spain and led France to a 79-55 triumph.

“In our recent history, we have experienced these types of situations and have responded well,” Vincent said.

"We are in this competition and despite this setback, our project remains the same.

“This group has the necessary resources to confront this adversity."

France (3-1) take on unbeaten Montenegro (4-0) in a Round 2, Group F game on Friday.
