LIMOGES (Pro B) - French club CSP Limoges have won promotion to Pro B following their 84-62 victory over Longwy on Saturday, two years after going bankrupt and being relegated to the third division.
The latest promotion means CSP have now claimed nine French titles to sit alongside their five European trophies.
Coach Hugues Occansey, himself a former Limoges player, believes the promotion is just reward for the hard work his players have put in.
"This is a great achievement after two years of hard work," Occansey told http://www.lequipe.fr
"This is a great reward, this match against Longwy was like a final we won."
After the game 36-year-old point guard Frederic Forte announced his retirement from playing.
Having fully recovered from the cancer after being diagnosed in November 2004, Forte is now ready to focus his energies on the presidency of the club.
"We are very happy to be back to professional basketball," Forte said.
"This is one step towards a bigger achievement, that is to say the Pro A.
"Like for Pro B, we will take two years (to win promotion to the Pro A) if necessary."
