PAU (Pro A) - Gordon Herbert could be named the new boss of Pau-Orthez by the end of the week.

The French giants parted company with coach Didier Gadou following the club's semi-final exit in the Pro A play-offs at the hands of Le Mans last week.

Herbert, the Canadian coach of Paris Basket Racing, is favourite to take over at the helm and Pau executive director Pierre Seillant confirmed a decision will be made in the next few days.

"Things are going well and we should finalise it all during the week," Seillant said in L'Equipe.

Herbert, 47, has been in charge at Paris Basket since 2004, having previously won the German title with Frankfurt.

Pau-Orthez had won three successive titles but Strasbourg ended that run in 2004-05, and now Le Mans will take on either Strasbourg or Nancy in this year's final.
