BOURGES (EuroBasket Women) - France had 13 players show up today in Bourges to begin preparations for next month’s EuroBasket Women in Poland.
The event will serve as the qualifying tournament for the London Olympics, with the side that reaches the Final advancing to next year’s Games.
Many of the players in France’s preliminary squad still have club commitments or have just wrapped up their seasons, like Celine Dumerc and Sandrine Gruda – members of the UMMC Ekaterinburg side that just won the Russian title – and cannot join the preparations.
But among those who were able to show up for the training camp are Marielle Amant and Sarah Michel of Arras, the club that reached this season’s EuroCup Women Final.
Amant was in last year’s France squad at the FIBA World Championship for Women.
Players to arrive in Bourges: Marielle Amant, Mélanie Arnaud, Camille Aubert, Julie Barennes, Clémence Beikes, Emilie Gomis, Sylvie Gruszczynski, Laëtitia Kamba, Pauline Krawczyk, Marion Laborde, Sarah Michel, Sarra Ouerghi and Ingrid Tanqueray.
