NOVI SAD (FIBA U19 World Championship) - France put in a strong third-quarter display to beat Brazil 75-67 on Sunday night and clinch bronze at the FIBA U19 World Championship in Novi Sad.

Edwin Jackson led the French with 13 points, with a game-high haul of 29 points from Brazil center Prestes proving immaterial.

The balance of power shifted between the sides on numerous occasions in the first quarter, which ended finely poised at 19-19.

The second period was an equally evenly-matched affair, but Abdoulaye Mbaye’s jump shot gave Les Bleuets a three-point cushion at the interval at 36-33.

The third 10 minutes saw the French - who lost their semi-final to the United States on Saturday - really assert themselves on the match, taking it 19-13 to go 55-
46 ahead at the three-quarter mark.

Brazil - who were ousted by hosts Serbia on Saturday - did not give up hope and at one point came within three points of their opponents at 68-65.

The South Americans edged the fourth quarter 21-20 to keep the scoreline respectable but could not overhaul their European rivals.
