    Former FIBA Americas President Julio Subero passes away

    SANTO DOMINGO - FIBA joined the Americas sporting family in mourning the passing of former FIBA Americas President, Mr Julio Subero, who died on Tuesday 5 January in his home in Santo Domingo

    SANTO DOMINGO - FIBA joined the Americas sporting family in mourning the passing of former FIBA Americas President, Mr Julio Subero, who died on Tuesday 5 January in his home in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He was 69 years old.

    Subero served as FIBA Americas President from 2006-2009, succeeding Canada's Rick Traer before giving way to Horacio Muratore, the current President of FIBA. The Dominican was also a member of the FIBA Central Board.

    Julio Daniel "Pami" Subero Montas was a successful businessman, owner of Manresa refrigerators in Santo Domingo. He collaborated in various sporting activities, falling in love with basketball.

    Subero was in charge of the Dominican Basketball Federation (FEDOMBAL) from 1992-2004 and also chaired the Central American and Caribbean Confederation (CONCENCABA).

    Prior to assuming various roles within FEDOMBAL, Subero was in charge of the San Lazaro club in 1991 and 1992, winning the championship in the top basketball tournament of the National District both seasons.
