BEIJING (CBA) - Chinese basketball is in mourning following the death of former national team center Chen Luyun.

A player in the side that finished sixth at the 2002 FIBA Women's World Championship and the 2004 Olympics, Chen has passed away after losing a fight against colon cancer.

She was just 38 years old.

The 1.88m pivot, whose club side was Fujian Tailaoshan, played for the China team that won the 2001 FIBA Asia Women's Championship and the 2002 Asian Games.

After her playing career, the Chinese Basketball Association made Chen a member of their coaching department.

In 2010, she led the girls' 3x3 side to a silver medal at the first-ever Summer Youth Olympic Games.

Chen, diagnosed with cancer three years ago, died on 23 December.
