Springfield Honda Newcastle Eagles’ player/coach Fabulous Flournoy has been awarded the BBL Coach of the Season award for 2005/06.

Flournoy, who also picked up the award last year, has led his team to near perfect season taking all three of the pieces of silverware on offer to date.

Back in December 2005 he guided his Eagles side to a 83-69 success over the Noray Properties London Towers to secure the BBL Cup. They followed this up in February, retaining the BBL Trophy with a convincing 71-50 defeat of the DMU Leicester Riders.

Earlier this month they went one better than last year’s runners up slot and secured the BBL Championship title with a 30-10 record, ironically one defeat worse than last years record.

Flournoy clinched the accolade with 58% of the media’s votes, Rocks’ coach Steve Swanson finished second.

Flournoy will be presented with his award this Sunday at the Basketball Finals Weekend (Saturday 29th/Sunday 30th April @ National Indoor Arena, Birmingham). The Eagles meet the Guildford Heat in the first semi final (3.30pm) on Saturday with the Scottish Phoenix Honda Record Rocks taking on the Westfield Sharks Sheffield in the second semi (6.00pm).

The two semi final winners will return the next day to compete for the BBL Championship Playoff Crown which will be screened live on Sky Sports and broadcast live on BBC Five Live Sports Extra.
