Gabby Williams and Breanna Stewart will meet again after the Final at Paris 2024

The two tournament frontrunners will meet on Sunday in what promise to be an absolute blockbuster.

BERLIN (Germany) - Heavyweight duo USA and France will fight it out for the famous silverware as they prepare to step out in what could be an all-time classic FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 Final.

Two years after the box-office showdown at Paris 2024 (USA won the Final 66-67) and in the wake of this week's lively debate over who should be number one in the Power Rankings, it's all going to boil down to who can produce the goods in what promises to be a super Sunday.

USA are looking to add to their astonishing legacy with their 12th title in total and 5th in a row since they last missed the Final back in 2006.

France have only ever climbed onto the podium once previously and that was a staggering 73 years ago back at the first ever edition in Chile.

Could they produce the greatest night in the history of French basketball?

    Key Matchup

Gabby Williams is a special player for France and could be the MVP in waiting. She does it all and her mentality, defense and leadership has always been present.

But in this tournament she has also hit a high gear offensively too and is an absolute menace - that places her even higher on USA's scouting report. She is the leader, the captain. Les Bleues will go as far as she will take them.

But who will step up and guard the jewel in the French crown? Perhaps there is a worry that USA don't really look like having a natural matchup for her. Will they look to Jackie Young or Rhyne Howard for example?

Whoever gets the assignment, arguably has the toughest job on the floor. But also, the USA help defense will have a big role too.

    The Killer Questions

It feels like if France continue making big shots from downtown then USA could be in trouble, but if they don't then France could be in trouble - which will it be?

But, three-point shooting is not the only major question. How will the new generation of USA in particular stand up to the searing defensive capabilities of France? Germany have played so well but ultimately crumbled under that pressure.

    Recent Game History

All the talk heading into the competition has been related to that stunning Final at Paris 2024 which the USA won 67-66 in dramatic fashion.

Gabby Williams brought it for France with 19 points, but MVP A'ja Wilson posted a stunning double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds. She was a beast that day.

USA will need to find another MVP to hold on to their crown.
