    The 16 countries having sent both men's and women's players to Athens, Greece had until Thursday morning to register for the historical Mixed competition.

    Fourteen teams ended up registering for the standard knock-out competition, while a fifteenth team, composed of two players of Jordan's (women's) team and two players of Lebanon's (men's) team was granted a special dispensation to take part under the name "WABA" (Western Asian Basketball Association).
