    FIBA Youth Development Project oversees successful clinic in Istanbul

    ISTANBUL (FIBA Youth Development) - International coaches working at grassroots level were recently invited to attend a course in Istanbul as part of the FIBA Youth Development Project.

    ISTANBUL (FIBA Youth Development) - A total of 19 coaches working at the grassroots level in Bulgaria, Hungary, Kosovo, The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Romania were recently invited to attend a course in Istanbul as part of the FIBA Youth Development Project.

    As part of the course, the coaches were treated to seminars by a number of experts in their respective fields, including dietitian Buket Mamur who stressed the importance of correct eating and drinking; Enis Bas who discussed physical strength and conditioning specifically for children; and Professor Ibrahim Yanmis who finished the talks on the topic of injury prevention.

    The attendees were able to visit a number of world famous Istanbul sporting institutions and learn of their respective approaches to development at grassroots level, talking to those directly involved in the projects. The clubs were Andadolu Efes, Besiktas, Fenerbahce and Galatasaray.

    They were also able to attend a number of games at European club, domestic and grassroots level. During these games, they had the opportunity for further discussions, including with Grassroots and Youth Development Co-ordinator of the Turkish National, Team Nihat Izic; and Secretary General of the Turkish Basketball Coaches Association (TUBAD), Bulend Karpat.

    Finally the Basketball Federation’s representative in Istanbul, Münir Gökmen provided technical information on grassroots events organised in Istanbul.
