    CZECH REPUBLIC
FIBA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS, WOMEN, SUMMER 2006

    OFFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS
Spacing and passing are two majors aspects of this offense. Good spacing allows for one and two
player isolation situations. It also frees up the post one-on-one in the paint. Use of on ball screens
and set plays creates open shots and penetration. Open shots are also created by spotting up on
    ball penetration.

    TRANSITION
Transition is an important part of their offensive system. When in transition this team scores a high
percentage of its transition possessions. Throwing the ball ahead is an option and if not open, the
ball goes ahead to the wing. Occasionally the guard will take the ball all the way up the floor and to
the basket. The tendency of their guards is to take the ball full speed up the floor after the outlet
pass. At a high speed the ball is more difficut to slow down or stop. A special transition play is also
run to start the game if they get the tip.

    OFFENSIVE TENDENCIES
Solid guard play drives the offensive system for this team. The ball quickly advanced and flows into
offensive movement or pattern. Multiple options are presented including: on ball screens, handoffs,
screens, give and go, and ball reversal for open shots. Post players take up space and provide
passing angles to the post from the perimeter. When the ball is caught in or near the lane at least
one perimeter player will cut hard to the basket for give and go.

    ON BALL ACTION
On ball action is executed in various ways; on ball screen & re-screen, handoff and on ball screen,
on ball screen and roll, and shoot behind the on ball screen. Perimeter players spot up for shots
when penetration comes from on ball action.

    SET PLAYS
    1. 1-2-2 set—Point takes ball to wing as post fakes a cross screen from the block. The weakside
forward then cuts high off a double screen at the free throw line. Two options are available.
    1. Back Screen/Down Screen—Double high posts. Ball initiated on wing pass. Options are back
screen for the point guard, and a down screen for the forward.
    1. Open side flare—Guard to guard reversal pass. First guard clears out, second guard accepts flare
      screen after reversing ball.

    OB PLAYS
OB plays are set up to provide two options. First cut is usually for a perimeter player and the second
for a post player. Same kind of play is run on Side OB plays.

    DEFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS
Guards will pressure passing lanes and attempt steals on reversal passes. Weak side defenders
maintain good vision and are aware of lob passes or screen and roll plays and provide help. Guards
may pick up full court at times to exert pressure and force steals.
