TURKEY
FIBA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
SUMMER 2006
OFFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS
Competitive, hard playing team. Good guard play. Posts are impressive as scorers on the block. Post
can score and pass. Good passing team. Must execute in the half court to win. Not very physical, but
make up for it with hard play. Their determination and hard play put them in chance to win games.
TRANSITION

This team will run when the opportunity is present. They lack the athleticism, speed, and personal to
make it an all-out emphasis the entire game. They pass the ball well which helps them cash in on
scoring on the break when it is there. Can convert after forcing turnovers. Guard oriented transition,
with posts joining in as trailers.
OFFENSIVE TENDENCIES

The post players place a major role in their offensive attack. The ball is touched by a post player in
the half court on a high percentage of possessions. Posts are crafty, can score with their back to the
basket, and are excellent passers to cutting perimeter players. Combination of penetration, hard
cutting, post feeds and moves, and spotting up for open shots. Efficient on the offensive end. They
do a good job of staying within who they are and what they are capable of doing.
SET PLAYS
-
Post pops to wing,
handoff back to point guard, on ball and roll from the wing.
-
Wing entry, sideline on
ball screen and roll.
-
Point passes back to
post after handoff on top, second handoff just above the elbow.
-
Post pop to wing, point
screens for opposite high post. Ball reversed to weak side, looking
for
cutter off double screen and down screen for shooter.

DEFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS

Basic man-to-man team. Pressure the ball and wings. Posts play behind. Will double the post with a
perimeter player. Good team help on drives to the paint. Handle on ball screens well. Not a physical
defense, but solid. Generally, they want the offense to shoot their defense.
