GREECE
FIBA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
SUMMER 2006
OFFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS

Good example of solid team play on the offensive end. All layers play a role well. All all passers,
cutters, ball handlers, and shooters. Not overly athletic, but make up for it by playing solid,
fundamental basketball. Compete on every possession. Good mix of inside/outside play, as points
come from both areas.
TRANSITION

Transition baskets come from pushing after a miss or converting off a steal. All perimeter, especially
#7, #10 and #13, drive with reckless abandon to the goal and finish strong. Wings and posts run the
floor well in transition to finish misses. Good spot ups by perimeter players anticipating the dish.
OFFENSIVE TENDENCIES

Balanced offensive attack with good mix of post play, cutting and outside shooting. Perimeter and
posts compliment each other well. Give and go is a big part of everything they do on offense. Also
will on ball screen, post feed, and penetrate and dish. Perimeter players are crafty players. Use
crossover and hesitation dribble to gain separation from defender, but are not slashers or explosive
penetrators. Read each other well, especially on give and go play. When ball goes to post, there use
at least 2 cutters away from the ball. Posts pass it well out of the block area. Posts, #5 and #14, take
up big space inside. Tough to front because of their strength and wide base. Both can get angles to
the post and score with a dribble or two.
SET PLAYS
-
Double high on ball
screens. Point guard looks to shoot behind the screen, or drive and
looks for
roll man.

- Swing/Curl
play--Baseline exchange by wings into hard curl cut into the lane.

-
Double high set with
posts. Post pop to wing to catch. Weak side back screen action.
Screen the
screener action for perimeter shooter.

Zone attack is from a 4 out, 1 in set, with #14 controlling the paint area. He may step out and set on
ball screen up top. Perimeter players drive gaps to draw defenders. Quick passing against the zone
creates open shots on the weakside. Always have a players sneaking along the baseline and
switching corners of the floor. Good perimeter shooting team. Potentially an excellent zone team.
DEFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS

Play basic man to man, containing penetration. Help a lot on any ball penetration. Reach and poke
for the ball to jar it loose. Play is physical inside with #5 and #14 in the paint.
