    Dedicated trophy to be awarded to champion of FIBA’s flagship women’s event in Asia

    SHENZHEN (China)- A new era was heralded in the history of women’s basketball events in Asia on Monday, May 12, with the unveiling of a dedicated Trophy for the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup champions starting this year.

    The Trophy will be a permanent feature of the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup awarded to the champion of every edition starting FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2025.

    The unveil ceremony took place at the Shenzhen Sports Centre, home of the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2025 to be played from July 13-20 and was attended by leading basketball figures in China and the Local Organising Committee with FIBA Executive Director- Asia Mr. Hagop Khajirian in the lead.

    “The trophy being unveiled today highlights the significant progress made by women’s national teams from Asia in recent years,” said Khajirian.

    “The trophy is an amalgamation of elements representing the various countries, cultures and beliefs in Asia bringing them all to life with a spectacular design,” he said.

    “Every champion team that lifts this trophy while being proud of winning will also relate to it in their own unique way,” he added.

    “This trophy is also as a tribute to the entire women’s basketball community in Asia. The Trophy celebrates women’s basketball in Asia,” he said.

    “With the unveiling of the Trophy, the stage is set for an exciting FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2025,” said Xu Lan, Secretary General of Chinese Basketball Association and a member of FIBA Asia Board.

    “Let us take this moment in Shenzhen as a new beginning, uniting our efforts to write the next great chapter in the story of basketball,” she added.

    “Today, as we stand about 60 days away from tip-off of the main tournament, it is my great pleasure to gather with you all to witness the unveiling of the trophy,” said Zhou Tianlong, Division Chief of the Sports Industry Development Department at the Culture, Media, Tourism, and Sports Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality.

    “We will adhere to international standards of excellence to ensure seamless event operations and deliver a world-class experience for global audiences. We also warmly invite basketball fans worldwide to visit Shenzhen for both thrilling games and unforgettable travel experiences,” he added.

    The event also saw former FIBA Hall of Famers Miao Lijie of China and Yuko Oga of Japan being named as Ambassadors of the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2025.
