FIBA U19 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2009, WOMEN
TEAM CHARACTERISTICS
Good team speed, passing, and teamwork. Balanced effort from all players on offense and defense. Versatility of post players make this team difficult to defend. Can score from all five spots on the floor and share the ball well. Will not make a lot of mistakes with the ball and will frustrate opponents with a tough match up defense. Make the offense shoot many shots from the outside, and rebounding on the defensive end is excellent. Balance and versatility is the key to success.
TRANSITION
Very productive transition team due to all players being involved and able to finish plays. Good passing up the floor puts immediately pressure on the retreating defense. Posts score on the break because of their ability to run the floor and beat defenders to the rim. Posts can run, catch, pass and finish on the break. Can flow from transition into half court offense quickly.
OFFENSIVE TENDENCIES

Will run sets to complement their half court offense. On ball screens are a big part of their offensive approach and incorporate them into most possessions. Post have ability to step out and face the basket on the perimeter. They can also drive the ball, make open high post shots, and pass. Often they will pass from high post and cut to low block to receive pass and score. Due to their aggressive nature they shoot a lot of free throws.
SET PLAYS
- High
post pop and catch, baseline runner to right corner, little/big
cross screen, high low pass.

- Wing
entry, hand back, on ball screen and roll, post lob pass.

- Post/perimeter
flare screen to open side of floor, catch and sweep and get to
basket.

- Flare
screen for perimeter, on ball screen to high low pass and score.

- On
ball screen and roll, dish to wing, drive and pass to low post.

Goal of OB plays is to set post/perimeter screen in lane to free shooter in ball side corner. After screening, post rolls to ball for easy catch and finish. If ball is entered in corner, post takes low post to catch and make post move. Another option is for perimeter player at free throw line to cut back door to catch and finish.
DEFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS

Combination of half court man to man and 2-3 match up zone. The match up zone does a good job of communicating, switching, and rotating to players away from the ball. When ball is entered to the wing, the guard takes the ball and pushes the wing defender down. Guards cover ball from wing to wing with the other three defenders controlling the high post, low post, and corners.
