    PUERTO RICO
FIBA U19 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2009, MEN

    TEAM CHARACTERISTICS
A team that makes up for any deficiencies with hard work, hustle, and aggressive play. Their defense sets the tone with ball pressure and creates turnovers for easy baskets. They rebound the ball well from their defense. Mix half court offense with set plays and work for a good shot each possession. Posts can block and alter shots in the paint which can ignite their transition game.

    TRANSITION
Multi talented team in transition due to passing, shooting, and driving ability. Blocked shots start many breaks for easy baskets. Quick outlets give numbers advantage over the defense and good passing ensures a good shot on the other end. If no break is available they will flow into half court offense. Aggressive defense forces turnovers which result in easy baskets.

    OFFENSIVE TENDENCIES
Calculated offensive attack that makes good use of on ball screens and penetration. Almost every possession will include screening, especially on ball screening. The double high on ball set is common way to begin the possession, followed by give and go or step backs for three pointers by screeners.

    SET PLAYS
    1. Corner cut, back screen for wing, double high on ball followed by down screen for shot.
    2. Entry pass and cut to basket, double screen for post followed by weak side down screen.
    3. Dribble entry to wing, wing cuts to top of key off two screens, followed by down screens.
    4. High post entry to back screen, into flex offensive pattern.
    5. Entry pass to wing, double down screen on weak side, on ball screen and roll.

    ZONE OFFENSE
Good passing and spacing against the zone. Use 4 out/1 in set, but all five players can be on perimeter in any given possession. Ball reversal moves the defense and allows post to flash into lane from behind. On ball screens on the perimeter to free shooters.

    OB PLAYS
The basic baseline alignment is 1-4 low. Posts cross and screen and flash to the ball. Shooters work to get open off post screens for shot or reverse the ball and flow into offense. From the side, on ball and baseline screens occur to free shooters or isolate the post.

    DEFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS
Aggressive man to man defense in the half court. Will shoot the gaps to create steals, double the post, and pressure the ball. Will scramble on offensive penetration and look to rotate and draw the charge. Block out well as a team and work to secure the rebound with two hands.
