    FIBA U18 Americas Championships groups are set after Draw

    MIAMI (United States) - The FIBA U18 Americas Championship and the FIBA U18 Women's Americas Championship draw for groups in the competition took place on May 16.

    MIAMI (United States) - The FIBA U18 Americas Championship and the FIBA U18 Women's Americas Championship draw for groups in the competition took place on May 16, determining the groups taking place in June in Mexico and Argentina.

    On the boys side, host team Mexico (1) will take on Argentina (2), Brazil (3) and Canada (4)  in Group A while Ecuador (1), Dominican Republic (2), USA (3) and Puerto Rico (4) make up the Group B from June 6 to 12, 2022 at Tijuana's Zonkeys Auditorium.

    United States took the podium in 2018 and has won past five competitions, though Puerto Rico Argentina have also won gold in previous years.

    As for the girls side, host team Argentina (2) will face Canada (1), Brazil (3) and Mexico (4) in Group A with the other group being made up of USA (1), El Salvador (2), Puerto Rico (3) and Colombia (4) from June 13 to 19, 2022 at the Obras Sanitarias Stadium in the city of Buenos Aires.

    For the girls, the United States has won the last nine editions of the event, with Brazil taking the top of the podium in 1992 and 1996.

    Both the boys and girls competitions teams are competing for one of four spots available in the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup in 2023.

    This is the first time the event will be held since 2018 when it took place in Canada, as the 2020 edition of the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

    Qualified teams join the event after playing in the CentroBasket and South American championships. The United States and Canada will be the representatives of North America.
