Canada Men 17
2010 World Championships
Team Characteristics
Good blend of inside and outside scorers. Offense varies between set plays and half court motion. Take good care of the ball and share it well. Take quality shots if they come early but will run down the shot clock if needed. Strength of team is cohesiveness and hard play. Changing defenses keep opponent off balance.
Offensive Tendencies
Prefer half court offense based on ball movement and quality shot selection. Use a mix of set plays and half court spread motion. Several catch and shoot players make the defense honest and create difficult closeouts. Good shooting and passing team that uses spacing to help their offensive efficiency.
Transition
Score in a variety of ways; run outs, drive from the middle, drive form the wings, and convert off turnovers. Crashing the offensive glass is also important with posts running hard down the floor to get in the play.
Set Plays
1. Down screen on left wing, back screen by post, on ball screen and roll

2. Post to post down screen, flex cut, hand off, shot

3. High post cross screen to isolation for post drive

Out of Bounds
Use box and stack sets for baseline plays. Plays are run with precision and good shots come from these plays. Option one is for perimeter coming off screen for shot followed by flash and roll by screener.
Zone Offense
1-3-1 alignment until first pass is made to wing. Passer cuts through zone to open area in either corner. Posts are high/low and rotate from side to side with the ball. Like to skip pass and screen in the zone, followed by penetration into the gaps in the zone.
Defense Tendencies
Will mix man to man with zone defense. In either defense they will trap especially on ball screens. Good rotation from weak side to force passes or draw charges. Active hands and close out quickly to shooters. 2-2-1 three-quarter court press at times with traps.
Zone Defense
Basic 2-3 zone with good ball pressure and reaction to reversals and skip passes. Will trap at times and swarm the post with active hands and contact.
