    Press Release

MIES - FIBA on Friday suspended its membership of SportAccord.

With this decision, the International Basketball Federation indicates its unwavering support to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and its President, Mr Thomas Bach, in dealing with sport and the Olympic Movement, and its unwillingness to be dragged further into the conflict opened in Sochi.

In a letter signed by FIBA President Horacio Muratore and FIBA Secretary General Patrick Baumann and addressed to SportAccord President, Mr Marius L Vizer, FIBA expressed its disagreement with statements Mr Vizer made against the IOC and the Sport Reform Agenda he issued, both of which were done without seeking consultation and/or support from its members.

Mr Muratore and Mr Baumann said the suspension was made in the hope that the upcoming meetings will bring this matter to a swift close for the benefit of the entire sports movement.
