FIBA statement on delayed Group C Thursday games

    Statement
Statement regarding the FIBA Women's EuroBasket Group C games on June 19

The start times of Group C games were affected by a power outage in the city of Brno.

The start of FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2025 games in Brno, Czechia on Thursday, June 19 was delayed due to a major power outage in the area around Starez Arena Vodova.

The outage was caused by an accident at a local transformer and interrupted the city’s high-voltage power supply. Backup generators are in place in the arena and were properly activated to restore power to key systems, but technical adjustments were required to ensure all equipment, including TV graphic systems, was fully operational.

This resulted to the initial tip of the Group C game between Czechia and Montenegro being delayed by approximately one hour, consequently also impacting the start time of the game between Belgium and Portugal by 45 minutes.

FIBA Europe and the Local Organizing Committee sincerely apologize to fans, players, teams, and partners for the inconvenience.

While such power outages are outside our control and cannot be predicted, all necessary steps have been taken in the arena to minimize delays and impact on games in case a similar accident occurs again during the tournament.
