FIBA President Hamane Niang honored in native Mali
BAMAKO (Mali) - FIBA President Hamane Niang has been made Commander of the National Order in Mali in recognition of his work and self-sacrifice on a daily basis for services to the country.
BAMAKO (Mali) - FIBA President Hamane Niang has been made Commander of the National Order in Mali in recognition of his work and self-sacrifice on a daily basis for services to the country.
Niang was presented with the honor at the Koulouba Palace in Bamako, which traditionally serves as the residence and office of the President of Mali.
Overseeing the ceremony honoring Niang and other dignitaries was Colonel Assimi Goita, Transitional President and Head of State of Mali.
Also in attendance were Mali Prime Minister Choguel Kokalla Maiga, the President of the National Transitional Council (CNT), Colonel Malick Diaw and several members of the government.
President of FIBA Africa since 2014, Niang was unanimously elected as the 13th FIBA President on August 29, 2019, during the FIBA Congress held in Beijing, China.
From 1999 to 2007, he served as president of the Mali Basketball Federation before his appointment as Minister of Youth and Sports and Minister of Culture between 2007 and 2011.
