    FIBA Order of Merit recipient Alexander Boshkov dies, aged 90

    SOFIA (Bulgaria) - One of the legends of Bulgarian basketball, Alexander Boshkov, has sadly passed away at the age of 90, it was confirmed.

    SOFIA (Bulgaria) - One of the legends of Bulgarian basketball, Alexander Boshkov, has sadly passed away at the age of 90, it has been confirmed.

    Boshkov - 1933-2023 - held the position as Secretary General of the Bulgarian Basketball Federation for over two decades, as well as spending over 50 years as a member of the Board. In 2006, he was awarded the FIBA Order of Merit for his long service and dedication to the sport.

    During his long tenure within the BBF, Boshkov also served as a dedicated FIBA Board Member for an extended period, as well as holding the esteemed position of Honorary Member at FIBA Europe.

    Boshkov was also the former President of FIBA Europe Women's Commission. He spent several years as a FIBA Commissioner - assisting in multiple Olympic Games, FIBA Basketball World Cups and European Championships at youth and senior level - along with being a referee at national league level.

    In 2013, Bozhkov received a prize for outstanding services to Bulgarian basketball to recognize all of his contributions over several decades.
