SYDNEY, Australia -- The FIBA Oceania 50th Anniversary is fast approaching with the region celebrating their golden year at the Stamford Plaza Airport Hotel in Sydney, Australia.

The regional office will host current and former FIBA Oceania board members, representatives from FIBA Oceania's 22 National federations, FIBA Oceania Member of Honour recipients and other distinguished guests who have all contributed to basketball’s development in Oceania over the last 50 years.

"It's going to be a historic celebration for FIBA Oceania, it is not often that we can bring in all the national federations together. We are going to celebrate the past 50 years but it will also give us the opportunity to plan for the future," said current FIBA Oceania Executive Director, David Crocker.

FIBA Oceania was founded on October 21, 1968; when Alistair Ramsay of Australia and Lance Cross of New Zealand proposed the formation of the new zone.

Then FIBA President, Antonio doe Ries Carneiro, approved the formation of the FIBA Zone Commission with no dissenting voices from the board.

The 50th FIBA Oceania logo depicts the FIBA events and the Olympic rings with a Pacific island design. It is also a combined logo of the two original Oceania Basketball Association logos.

National Federation representatives and FIBA officials will use the opportunity of meeting to hold workshops throughout the day on topics such as coaching, player development, basketball for good and hosting events.
