    NEW ZEALAND
    FIBA OCEANIA CHAMPIONSHIP 2009, WOMEN

    TEAM CHARACTERISTICS
Very basic but sound approach to team basketball. The offense is based on spacing and ball movement and will include some set plays. Have the ability to play on offense longer than the defense which creates good shots and offensive rebounds. Each possession is well executed with all players being involved in the action. Good defensive presence with solid man to man and effective match up zone. Very fundamentally sound team from start to finish making them very competitive.

    TRANSITION
Will rebound, outlet, and look down the floor for open teammates. Run quickly down the floor and would rather advance ball by pass than dribble. Several players can finish at end of break and draw fouls in the process. After ball is advanced, do a good job of finding players trailing the play with good passes.

    OFFENSIVE TENDENCIES
Spread the floor with 4 out/1 in offense based on good spacing. Sometimes can be 5 out offense with good passing, cutting, and filling spots on the floor. Any player can cut and post within the offense, then vacate to the weak side. Good player and ball movement with emphasis on pinpoint passing. When ball is driven, players away from ball slide into open areas for shots or shot fake and penetration. Mix set plays with half court offense.

    SET PLAYS
    1. Baseline cutter using double screen on right block, back cut from left side for lay up.
    2. Shuffle cut, reverse ball, double screen and pop for shot.
    3. 1-4 high set, pass fake to high post, pass to wing back door cutter on left wing.

    OB PLAYS
Utilize box set and stack alignment from baseline. Will set double screen with cutter going between the two screeners to get open for shot. After screening in all OB plays, screeners slip and cut to open areas to catch for shot. From sideline, the key is to get ball in hands of guard and set on ball screen and roll on isolated side of the floor.

    DEFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS
Combination of match up zone and man to man defense make up their half court defensive game plan. Match can begin in 2-3 or 3-2 set but matches up with players as soon as ball is entered. Good communication and switching creates less effective offense. Man to man is based on aggressive play on and off the ball.
