    FIBA OCEANIA CHAMPIONSHIP 2009, MEN

    TEAM CHARACTERISTICS
Aggressive play and balance on both ends defines their team. Equal scoring comes from the perimeter and post areas. High and low post players are the target though perimeter players have lots of freedom on offense. Posts are good passers out of the post, giving guards chance to space up and receive passes. Defensive effort leads to easy baskets in transition.

    TRANSITION
Good shooting team in transition. Ball is advanced up floor quickly on pass or dribble. Very good in transition after turnovers or long rebounds. Point guard will throw ahead, use quick on ball screen on the top of the floor, or throw directly into the post. A pass ahead to the wing is followed by an open jump shot, on ball screen and roll or step back by the post.

    OFFENSIVE TENDENCIES
Offense is combination of screening, cutting, and low post play. After using screens, perimeter players drive ball at rim to score or get fouled. A variety of shots are used including open jump shots and runners in the lane. After feeding the post, perimeter players space the floor for return passes out of the post. Half of the offense is generated from on ball screening action usually from the double high post initial set.

    SET PLAYS
    1. High post entry and down screen on weak side for fade and shot.
    2. High post entry and down screen on weak side, cutter curls in lane for shot.
    3. High post entry, flare screen and on ball screen.
    4. High post entry followed by down screen action on both wings.
    5. High post entry, ball reversal, back screen and shuffle cut by post.

    ZONE OFFENSE
Use a combination of post feeds, post flashes, penetration and cutters to attack the zone. Once ball is reversed, perimeter players cut through the lane to open corner on strong side. Once ball is thrown inside, perimeter players spot up for inside/out shot opportunities.

    OB PLAYS
Use a variety of actions in their OB plays. Common action is to reverse ball and down screen for shooters. Cutters use down screens and back screens to stress the defense.

    DEFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS
Basic defense is man to man but can bring a combination of defenses keeps the offense off balance. Aggressive ball pressure and good help from the weak side typify their half court defense.
