    NEW ZEALAND
    FIBA OCENIA CHAMPIONSHIP, SUMMER 2007

    TEAM CHARACTERISTICS
This team relies on combination of solid play in every areas of the game. One areas is not their
specialty of any others. Rounding is solid as is their shooting and zone defense. Will adapt as the
game goes on and change up defenses and offensive strategy. Post are capable to score and make
good passes to cutters or open shooters. Defensive transition is adequate which allows them to
transition smoothly into half court man to man. Has to been solid in all areas to be as competitive as
they want to be every night.

    TRANSITION
Good but calculated transition game. Stay within themselves and keep from unsure passes or shots.
Scoring comes from point guard penetration to the basket, deep penetration and kick out and ball
reversal and open shots. Point guard usually pushes ball down the middle and takes what the
defense gives him. Posts slide into openings on penetration to receive passes and finish. Because
they are not a high risk team their scoring percentage in transition is good.

    OFFENSIVE TENDENCIES
Without a dominating scorer, this team distributes the ball and takes advantage of scoring
opportunities. Ball is going inside on a majorty of possessions. Post back down to gain an
andvantage and attempt to fake and get angles to the basket. When pressured, the ball is delivered
to the perimeter with accuracy. Perimeter players think shot first, then use shot fake to go by
defenders. If neither option is available, penetration is counted on. Good open shooters that work
hard off several screens to get open. Post slip to open areas after screening.

    SET PLAYS
    1. High post entry by point guard. Point and wing X off the post, looking for point guard cutting to the
      basket.
    2. High post entry, fake hand off on open side, double on weak side, followed by curl cut.
    3. Swing the wings with posts screening on the blocks. Enter to wing, post feed, one on one.
    ZONE OFFENSE
A basic 3 out 2 in offense. Looking to get the ball into the paint to posts who score or hit cutter and
spot up players. Lots of cutting along the baseline. Will cut continuously to move the defense and
free up other areas of the floor. Once it goes in the paint, shooter spot up and make open three point
shots. Good ball movement with two perimeter players stationary on top of floor.

    DEFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS
Do a good job of playing man to man and zone and mixing it up throughout the game. Man to man is
fundamentally based, limiting penetration and physical inside. Posts have the ability to block shots
and rebound the ball on the defensive glass. 3-2 zone matches up with players on the perimeter.
Corner pass is taken by the strong side post and rotation occurs behind him. Can control tempo with
their zone by making possessions longer for the offense.
