LONDON (2012 London Olympics) - Tickets for the London 2012 Olympic Games went on sale on Tuesday, 500 days before the start of the event, with demand expected to be particularly high for basketball.
People interested in purchasing some of the 6.6 million tickets that are on sale for the 26 sports must submit their applications through the London 2012 Games official ticketing website (http://www.tickets.london2012.com/) no later than 26th April 2011.
Applicants who do not reside in the UK or a designated European country can apply via their National Olympic Committee (NOC) or their Authorised Ticket Reseller as of Tuesday 15th March. More information can be found on the ticket eligibility page.
The Olympic Basketball Tournament will consist of a total of 42 sessions. You can find out more about schedule and ticket prices here.
Demand for basketball tickets is expected to be very high in light of FIBA's decision last Sunday to grant hosts Great Britain automatic places in both the Men's and Women's tournaments.
This summer, Great Britain's Men's team will take part in an Olympic Test Event, the London International Invitational, from 16th to 21st August 2011 at the Olympic Park's Basketball Arena.
They will be joined in the six-team field by Australia, China, Croatia, France and Serbia in what will be a very competitive tournament that will wet the appetite in the lead-up to the Olympic Basketball Tournament.
