FIBA livestreamed 97 days of basketball on Social Media in 2016

MIES - There's nothing like going to a basketball game and seeing your favorite team play, but watching via livestreaming has become a popular alternative.

MIES - There's nothing like going to a basketball game and seeing your favorite team play, but watching via livestreaming has become a popular alternative.

That was confirmed in 2016 with FIBA's livestreaming of 1,200 games around the world, including youth tournaments like the FIBA U17 World Championship and senior competitions such as the FIBA EuroBasket 2017 Qualifiers.

An impressive 18 million views - 78 percent of those for youth competitions - is proof that FIBA's decision to offer livestreaming as a complement to TV in 2013 was a slam dunk. For the first time, not only did action come from all continents but multicasting took place with games livestreamed on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. More games and events will be livestreamed in 2017.
