FIBA in the Americas held its Zone Executive and Board meetings

Miami (USA) – The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) in the Americas held its Zone Executive and Board meetings on April 21st and 22nd via video conference for the first time 2022. FIBA authorities attending the meeting included FIBA President Hamane Niang, FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis, FIBA Americas President Carol Callan, and FIBA Americas Executive Director Carlos Alves.

The meeting took place at the closing of a busy and productive Q1/2022 where the Regional Office in the Americas delivered some key initiatives including the FIBA AmeriCup 2022 Draw, the BCL Americas Final 8 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and both U18 South American Championships in combination with two World Cup Qualifying events for both men and women.

FIBA’s key strategic priorities which include the empowerment of National Federations, the develop of women in basketball, and the enlarging of the FIBA family were key talking points during both sessions.

Updates on FIBA Competitions for the remaining 2022 calendar year, the FIBA AmeriCup 2022 that will be held in Brazil from September 2-11, the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup which will be held in Australia from September 22 – October 1, and the FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup which will be held in Miami from November 4-6, 2022.

The next Americas’ Zone Board is scheduled for end of October 2022.
