FREISING (European Youth Championships) – Representatives of the Local Organizing Committees (LOC) of the 2018 European Youth Championships met in southern Germany earlier this week for a two-day workshop.

The workshop, which took place in the Bavarian city of Freising, brought together LOCs from around Europe in order to share ideas on a number of topics ahead of this summer's youth events.

The main talking points in the sessions, which included guest speakers from former and current hosts, centered around marketing and promotion concepts for a youth event; the importance of volunteers; and how to attract media interest.

It is the fifth year that FIBA has held the workshop, which is run in conjunction with the European Youth Championship Draws, with an ever-stronger emphasis on attendee participation and interaction among the LOCs.

"The workshop was very useful, well organized and during the group activities it was a good experience to discuss several opportunities with other Federations. There were excellent lecturers, and the questions from the participants were well handled," expressed Stephan Laimer from the Austrian Basketball Federation, who will this summer host the FIBA U18 Women's European Championship, Division B.
