The Road to Spain 2014 is already well under way with seven of the 24 competing teams already known.
In August, Asia's trio of Iran, Philippines and Korea and the Oceania pair of Australia and New Zealand booked their places through their respective continental championships. They joined the already qualified Olympic champions USA and tournament hosts Spain.
On Friday and Saturday in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire, qualification for the FIBA Basketball World Cup is reaching its climax at the AfroBasket with Egypt, Senegal, Angola and the host nation battling for the three places on offer.
The FIBA Americas Championship tips off on Friday evening in Caracas, Venezuela, where the top four teams will punch their tickets to next year's world class event.
The qualification phase for the FIBA Basketball World Cup will conclude with the EuroBasket in Slovenia (4-22 September) where the top six teams - or top seven if Spain finish in the first six - will book their places for the biggest national team basketball tournament.
The final four places in the 24-team competition will be attributed as wildcards at the end of the year.
The Road to Turkey 2014 started in June when Spain, France, Serbia, Belarus and Czech Republic all clinched their spots through EuroBasket Women. In August, Australia's Opals booked their ticket by winning the FIBA Oceania Championship for Women. The six teams joined the already qualified Olympic champions USA and tournament hosts Turkey.
The qualification process for the 16-team FIBA World Championship for Women will resume in September with the AfroBasket Women (20-29 September) and the FIBA Americas Championship for Women (21-28 September) and conclude with the FIBA Asia Championship for Women (27 October-3 November).
