REYKYAVIK (Iceland) - The smallest nation at the EuroBasket 2025 is Iceland, a team filled with pride and led by Martin Hermannsson. They are entering the main event for the third time and are sure to give their best to aviod last place claimed at the first to appearances.

They secured their spot with a successful campaign and a 3-3 record in the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 Qualifiers, making it back to the main event after missing the 2022 edition.

Iceland first took part in the Qualifiers back before the 1969 event, but could not reach the Final Round until 2015. Now, they are making it a habit, appearing in three of the last four tournaments. Is it time for the first win at EuroBasket after an unlucky 0-10 record so far?

    Star Player

    Martin Hermannsson
    190 cm (6'3") | Guard

Without a doubt Iceland's biggest international star, Martin Hermannsson is back to lead his homeland at the third EuroBasket event in the nation's history. It is also his own third appearance as Hermannsson took part in 2015 and 2017.

The 30-year-old guard is now a household name and somewhat of a veteran in the European basketball, playing his part at the highest club level in recent years for Valencia and Alba Berlin. Hermannsson is sure to once again showcase his high-level scoring and leadership, as is always the case when he plays for Iceland.

He was a big part of the Qualifiers campaign - putting up 20 points on average in Iceland's journey to the Final Round. The last time he appeared at the EuroBasket in 2017, he was still a fairly inexperienced guy, but still tallied 12.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. If Iceland want their maiden win at this level, much will rest on Hermannsson's shoulders.

    History

    3
    appearances

This will be Iceland's third participation, and they were desperately unlucky in the last two draws.

In 2015, Iceland ended up alongside Serbia, Spain, Italy, Türkiye and Germany in the group in Berlin; losing all five games, including the overtime thriller against Türkiye.

Two years later, they ended up next to Slovenia, Finland, France, Greece and Poland in Helsinki, once again ending up without a win, with an 0-5 record.

    Best finish: 24th (2015, 2017)
