MIES (3x3) - The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) showed its support for the 2nd International Day of Sport for Development and Peace by endorsing a community-driven initiative which aims to organise 3x3 basketball events all over the world on 6 April (and later that week).

The project named #WhoDaresWins was developed by Lungi Mchunu, a 3x3 enthusiast based in Johannesburg, South Africa, who discovered 3x3 back in 2012.

"3x3 is pretty exciting for me," she explained.

"I have never been part of such an open community. A lot of positive changes are happening."

Mchunu challenged the 3x3 basketball community to organise a 3x3 event and got organisers from 10 different countries (Brazil, Congo DRC, France, Ghana, Greece, Kenya, Lesotho, South Africa, Puerto Rico, Uganda) to join the movement.

The South African, who also edits the digital magazine bballmagsa, spoke of how she found the motivation to organise such a project from her own origins.

"South Africa has always been a nation of sport," she claimed.

"We are a nation, which always managed to be united in sporting events.

"I have fond memories of playing basketball growing up and now it is all about giving back. After all, we are all ambassadors of our sport."

All organisers regardless of the size are welcomed to join this initiative by registering their 3x3 event on 6april.org and 3x3planet.com with the hashtag #WhoDaresWins

Everyone can show their support for the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace by participating in the #WhiteCard campaign.
