    FIBA Central Board members get together in Tokyo

    TOKYO (Japan) – Members of the FIBA Central Board have got together in Tokyo this week, their first in-person gathering since the start of the pandemic.

    TOKYO (Japan) – Members of the FIBA Central Board have got together in Tokyo this week, their first in-person gathering since the start of the pandemic. 

    The Central Board held a get-together on the warm-up court of the impressive Saitama Super Arena, respecting local rules against COVID-19. International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach also met with the members and attended the Women’s Olympic Basketball Tournament, watching the USA play France on the final day of the Group Phase. 

    Thanks to 3x3, basketball at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games has featured a record number of players, with countries like Mongolia and the Netherlands taking to the court for the first time in history.  Additionally, there was an equal number of men and women athletes, referees, sports supervisors, MC's and DJs at the 3x3 debut in Tokyo.

    The International Olympic Committee President was also part of the Aomi Urban Sports Park celebrations, witnessing the USA win gold at the women’s 3x3 Final.
