TIANJIN (FIBA Asia Championship) - The 25th FIBA Asia Championship will achieve record levels with the television coverage of the games reaching 41 countries.

The 24th FIBA Asia Championship in Tokushima, Japan two years ago had coverage in 39 countries.

The television coverage of the 25th FIBA Asia Championship in fact has grown beyond the geographical boundaries, with telecast available in as many 10 African countries.

“This is a positive development which shows the increasing popularity of basketball in Asian countries,” said FIBA Asia President, Sheikh Saud Bin Ali Al-Thani.

“CCTV, our television partner in China is not only doing an excellent job in producing the games but is also broadcasting two games per day and providing extensive news coverage” he added.

Apart from the television broadcasters from the participating countries, viewers in additional Asian countries will be able to watch the quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final games of the Championship.

“We at FIBA Asia are excited with the increase in interest among the television broadcasters,” said FIBA Asia Secretary General Dato’ Yeoh Choo Hock.

“The coverage throughout Asia is very extensive and this year basketball fans in Singapore, Macau and Hong Kong will see FIBA Asia basketball,” he added.

FIBA Asia Media and Marketing Committee Chairman Hagop Khajirian said: “Combined with the two arena capacities of over 8,000 spectators in the Tianjin Gym and 2,000 in the Nankai University, this Championship has undoubtedly reached the most number of eye-balls.

“And for those basketball fans that cannot see the television broadcasts they can follow select games on the global FIBAtv.com internet site. This additional opportunity takes the numbers to an all-time high,” Khajirian added.
