FIBA ASIA CHAMPIONSHIP 2009, WOMEN
TEAM CHARACTERISTICS
Good overall quickness on both ends of the floor. Balance between perimeter and post scoring. Can push the ball in transition but are best in the half court. Size helps defensive game as post block and alter shots. Play well together and use quickness and pressure to be in every game. Team plays to their strengths and roles.
TRANSITION

Transition lead by strong perimeter play and posts that run the floor. After outlet pass, guards will push the ball until the defense stops the ball. Guards will take it all the way to the rim whenever possible. Wings spot up for open shots and are often open. Posts run the floor and are available in the paint and can score off the catch. Use the transition game to their advantage.
OFFENSIVE TENDENCIES

Good spacing, passing, and unselfishness describe this team's offense. Mixture of set plays and free lance motion offense yields excellent shot. Quick ball and player movement present challenges to the defense. The inside/out game helps create paint shots and return passes to perimeter for open shots. Will mix in transition but most comfortable and effective in their half court motion offense. Will run down the clock in order to get great shots.
SET PLAYS
- Entry
pass and cut, high post flash and catch, baseline cutter, pass back
to wing and into post.
- High
post feed, hand back, post flash and catch, pass to back door
cutter.
- Wing
entry pass, on ball screen and roll to the basket.
ZONE OFFENSE

3 out/2 in is the basic set but can become 4 out/1 in. One post can float from low post to high post. Two perimeter players on the outside with baseline runner. Good low post scorers help shrink the defense on a catch. Good outside shooting and passing benefit the zone attack.
OB PLAYS

Most baseline OB plays are designed to get shooters open for open shots. Shooters use screens to get open in the ball side corner or weak side corner. Post will step into paint for lob and shot in the paint.
DEFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS

Basic man to man team with good shot blockers in the lane. Good quickness and ball pressure on the perimeter cause turnovers and push ball outside the three line. May do some switching or show zone in situations.
