FIBA ASIA CHAMPIONSHIP 2009, MEN
TEAM CHARACTERISTICS
Balanced and unselfish team that plays to individual roles. Post play is the anchor of their offensive and defensive effectiveness. Score in a variety of ways and lean on transition for good share of baskets and free throws. Patient on offense with emphasis on getting the ball to the post. Several cutting and screening option result from ball going inside. Go hard to offensive glass on misses.
TRANSITION

A large percentage of points come from their transition game. Very quick transition from defense to offense in the full court. Excellent use of long passes up the floor to sprinting teammates. Instantly put pressure on the defense. Priority is to drive the ball all the way to the basket if defense does not stop the ball. Active defensive play creates many transition opportunities.
OFFENSIVE TENDENCIES

Hard driving penetrators make many good things happen in half court offense. Make good use of big post player who is focal point of most possessions. Penetration accounts for majority of baskets and free throws. Combination of sets and motion offense with goal of getting to the basket. Penetration also provides baskets on penetrate and pitch plays.
SET PLAYS
- Wing
entry, quick on ball screen and roll with cutter coming from ball
side corner.
- Wing

post catch.
- High

ZONE OFFENSE

Zone offense starts in 4 out/1 in set but can take many shapes. Use high and low post players effectively. Flashes into high post cause problems for zone defenders and high low action can occur. Cutters and baseline runners are also effective for ball reversal and open shots.
OB PLAYS

Basic three across or stack set disguises several options on baseline OB plays. These sets produce screen the screener action for shooters, corner shot for inbounds passer, and double screen baseline runner action.
DEFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS

Shot blocking post player anchors their defensive effectiveness. Sound man to man team that creates problems for the offense and pushes their pressure into the full court to hurry the opponent into their offense. Will gamble in the half court by double teaming or switching at times. Scrappy team with quick hands and ability turn turnovers into easy baskets.
