    FIBA ASIA CHAMPIONSHIP 2009, MEN

    TEAM CHARACTERISTICS
Balance, patience, and consistency describe this unit. Their relentless approach takes advantage of the opponent’s weaknesses on both ends. Offensively they get the ball inside while making it difficult for the opponent to score on the other end. Solid in the half and full court but their focus in on getting the ball near the basket by feeding the post or driving to the rim. Dangerous in transition because of speed, passing, and shooting ability.

    TRANSITION
A quick outlet pass triggers this potent transition offense. Many transition baskets come from ball deflections or blocked shots. They use their excellent passing skills to find open players in transition including posts running the floor. Posts are good perimeter shooters and will get hand backs form penetrating guards. They often get to the basket with aggressive penetration.

    OFFENSIVE TENDENCIES
A very predictable yet potent half court offensive system. Getting the ball into the post is their number one priority. Most possessions include a post feed option on the initial entry or after the ball is reversed. If post is doubled, the ball comes back out for a shot or dribble penetration and may go back into the post a second time. Each possession includes multiple cutters, especially after feeding the post. Form triangles on one side of the floor most of the time giving them excellent spacing.

    SET PLAYS
    1. UCLA cut, double back screen for post, post up and score.
    2. High post entry, ball reversal, post feed and post move.
    3. High post entry, shuffle cut and post up.
    4. Corner cut by point guard, backscreen, staggered single for point guard.
    5. Point to high post entry pass, cut to basket, point sets flex screen for lay up.

    ZONE OFFENSE
Because of size, skill, and versatility, this team is very good against zone defenses. Alignment is 4 out/1 in or 3 out/2 in and can be both within the same possession. Good cutting and passing which creates player and ball movement. Posts can play inside or step outside to reverse, screen on ball, or shoot.

    OB PLAYS
Combination of box sets on the baseline and stacks on the sideline. The goal from the sideline is to get ball entered and set two back screens for the passer cutting to the basket for a lay up. On baseline, posts screen to free perimeter players for quick shot and will look into post for post feed.

    DEFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS
Half court defense is mainly man to man but can play some zone. Very good ball pressure and quick hands describe their man to man. Cause many turnovers with deflections, steals and blocked shots at the rim. Very good in scramble situations with good help side rotation and positioning.
