TOKYO (Japan) - The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games has numerous approved FIBA Equipment & Venue Centre products in play at both the 3x3 and basketball events.

The balls, floors and backstops of both sports' disciplines all received approval by the Equipment & Venue Centre, which also signed off on the impressive canopy in 3x3. Other basketball-approved equipment includes a scoreboard and whistle controlled timing system and the whistle for the men's and women's tournaments.

The Tokyo 2020 Games is set to be one of the most innovative Olympics in history. All Approved Equipment underwent strict sample testing to ensure a fair and safe environment for all players. This included testing the vibration of the rim after a dunk, the gloss level of the court, the frequency of the whistle and much more.

Being approved by FIBA opens doors to many opportunities, both at FIBA competitions and the Olympic Games. The Equipment & Venue Centre offers a global platform to find the highest level of quality and testing related to basketball equipment and stadium facilities and the Equipment & Venue Centre Partners have the unique opportunity to showcase their products and brand in front of the basketball family and millions of television viewers across the globe.

While basketball has been included in the Summer Olympic Games for the past 19 editions, the 3x3 discipline has just made its Olympic debut in Tokyo after it was added to the Olympic program by the International Olympic Committee, bringing the sport from the streets to the Olympics.

FIBA released the Handbook of Test Methods and Requirements for 3x3 and Outdoor Basketball Equipment in 2020. The standard covers the requirements specific to outdoor use and the corresponding tests of flooring products, such as dimensional stability and UV weathering.

The Handbook also includes requirements for both Level 1 equipment for elite 3x3 competition, such as the Olympic Games, and Level 2 equipment which is recommended for any level of 3x3 basketball to ensure the safety and durability of all equipment.

All of these product developments have also resulted in various standards to accommodate 3x3 basketball, such as the integrated shot clock at the base of the backstop unit.
