FIBA and FISU renew close cooperation until 2023

FIBA and FISU renewed their collaboration convention until 2023 after FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis and FISU President Oleg Matytsin signed an agreement at the House of Basketball on Tuesday.

MIES (Switzerland) - FIBA and FISU (International University Sports Federation) on Tuesday renewed their collaboration convention for another four years, until 2023.

FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis welcomed FISU President Oleg Matytsin at the House of Basketball where the pair signed the agreement that will see the two international federations work closely together to continue having basketball be an integral part of the Summer Universiade.

Basketball has been one of the most popular and attractive sports at the biennial international multi-sport event organized for university athletes ever since its inaugural edition was held in 1959 in Turin, Italy.

Also known as the World University Games, the Universiade is the second largest multi-sport event behind the Olympic Games.

FISU also organizes - in collaboration with FIBA - an annual 12-team event called the 3x3 FISU World University League, with the winner earning a FIBA 3x3 World Tour berth.
