FIBA and Egypt launch FIBA PLUS Strategy and Planning Program

CAIRO (Egypt) - FIBA and the Egyptian Basketball Federation (EBBFED) are working hand in hand to build a stronger foundation for basketball in the African country.

As part of the 2019-2023 FIBA strategy to "Empower National Federations" to reach their full potential,  the FIBA PLUS Strategy and Planning Program has been set in motion for the federation. The program will help the EBBFED improve its capacity to organize, professionalize and commercialize its basketball activities.

The process consists of FIBA first holding talks with the EBBFED, and external stakeholders, to help the federation complete a situation analysis. This in turn will provide information for the EBBFED Board Members as they develop a strategy. The FIBA PLUS program will set performance baselines and benchmarks so the federation can measure its progress throughout the length of the program.

As the EBBFED defines goals, develops SMART objectives and details action plans for the next 18 to 24 months, FIBA will offer mentoring, videoconference workshops and tailored assistance. The EBBFED strategy will be re-evaluated on a regular basis.

Egyptian Basketball Federation President Magdy Abofrekha said: "We are happy to be part of this important initiative. We are looking to further improve and develop our federation with the help of FIBA and I believe we can produce a productive plan for Egyptian Basketball. EBBFED will happily support the program with its full capacity and resources."

FIBA Executive Committee member and FIBA Africa President Anibal Manave, who also chairs FIBA's Working Group on National Federation Development, said: "One of the main focus areas for FIBA for the current cycle of 2019-2023 is the development of National Federations. The FIBA PLUS Strategy and Planning program will provide the Egyptian Basketball Federation with a high level of expertise, knowledge and practical guidance on each step of their strategic planning process, and I look forward to seeing the progress of the EBBFED in the near future."
