FIBA and DIBF strengthen ties after agreeing closer collaboration

MIES (Switzerland) - FIBA and the Deaf International Basketball Federation (DIBF) have committed to strengthening ties in a clear reflection of their shared passion to promote the sport globally.

The two organizations already enjoy an excellent and highly productive collaboration - something which is being formally underlined by both parties entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Together, both organizations will strive to create greater opportunities and inclusivity for the sport of basketball around the world.

The DIBF is an independent association composed of National Deaf Sports Federations and National Deaf Basketball Associations governing deaf basketball worldwide. DIBF is recognized by FIBA and is an Associate Member of the International Committee for the Sports of the Deaf (ICSD) and its regional confederations.

FIBA Secretary General, Andreas Zagklis said: "FIBA has been working closely with the DIBF for several years and we are happy to take this formal step to strengthen our relationship further, not least because both organizations have such a powerful shared purpose to promote the sport around the world.

"We are determined to extend our successful delivery of our strategic priorities, including to 'Enlarge the FIBA Family' and having partner organizations such as the DIBF is very much a part of this.

"FIBA is delighted to be able to continue supporting the needs of the DIBF wherever we can and to support their initiatives with the expertise we have," added Zagklis.

As part of the Memorandum of Understanding, FIBA will assist DIBF in its activities, including technical support for its Coaching Clinics, Referee Clinics and World Championships.

"We are excited to have signed this Memorandum of Understanding with FIBA. This is a historic moment for us, together with the re-elected council that was recently held at the DIBF World Basketball Championship 2023 in Crete. For the DIBF, it is an honor to be able to continue working closely with FIBA and reach higher levels for our sport together", said Ioannis Stoufis, DIBF President.
