XALAPA (FIBA Americas League) – All eyes will be on Mexico early next month because the FIBA Americas League Final Four is to be staged in Xalapa, Veracruz.

Halcones UV Xalapa will host the event which also has Halcones Rojos, Capitanes de Arecibo of Puerto Rico and Regatas Corrientes of Argentina.

Corrientes had wanted to have the Final Four in their city as well but the FIBA Americas went with Xalapa.

The secretary general of the FIBA Americas, Alberto Garcia, said: "Besides the economic aspects, Halcones de Xalapa and their main sponsor, Universidad Veracruzana, have collaborated with the FIBA Americas League since the start of it and they always organized first round or final stages.

“Last year, they were one of the bidders for the Final Four and despite making a better offer, we decided Mar del Plata because the year before that we went to Mexico.

“They deserve it, they've earned it."

Capitanes manager Luis Monrouzeau agreed with the decision.

"The event features two teams from Mexico, because there are the Halcones Rojos of Veracruz in the Final Four, so for purposes of the FIBA Americas, it is a wise business decision," he said in Primerahora.com.

The Final Four will be held at the USBI Gym on March 4, 5 and 6.
