MIAMI (FIBA Americas League) - American side Miami Tropics needed extra time to beat Mexicans Halcones Xalapa 112-105 in their opening game in FIBA Americas League Group B.

The game came to a thrilling climax at the end of normal time when a two-point shot by Greg Plummer right on the buzzer allowed Halcones to force extra time.

However, hosts Tropics took advantage early in extra time with a superb 10-0 run thanks to strong performances from Jermain Watson and Karel Rosario.

The pair were in fine form throughout and scored 36 and 32 points respectively as Tropics secured the win, while Mexican centre Victor Mariscal hit 29 for Halcones and Gustavo Ayon grabbed 10 rebounds.

"Our team was faster and we were better physically, I think," said Rosario.

"We only started to train two weeks ago while the other teams played 35 games in the season. We need to play more to improve our game."

On Wednesday night Halcones will try to recover against Puerto Rico's Capitanes de Arecibo while Miami will meet Monterrey's Fuerza Regia.
