MIAMI (FIBA Americas League) - Miami Tropics beat Puerta Rican side Capitanes de Arecibo 81-71 to qualify from FIBA Americas League Group B with a 100% record.
Jermaine Watson top scored 24 points for the Americans, while Stewart Baldonado claimed 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Buster Figueroa Sepulveda netted 25 points for the losers.
The win, Miami's third win from three games, sees them qualify, while Capitanes, who won once and lost twice, go out as Mexico's Halcones Xalapa have a better goal average.
"I'm very happy with our performance. The coach gave me a lot of confidence and that's very important to me," said Tropics' centre Jermaine Watson.
Miami coach Don Kelbick added: "Watson was superb. He is very clever and made the difference near the basket."
Halcones lost the All-Mexican duel against Fuerza Regia 93-89.
Omar Quintero starred for Regia, netting 26 points and grabbing nine rebounds, while Salcido Pinon netted 17 points and Greg Plummer grabbed eight rebounds in Halcones' losing cause.
The FIBA Americas League will continue on December 18 when Group C tips off in Belo Horizonte.
