    FIBA Americas League - Soles de Mexicali win thriller

    GUAYNABO (FIBA Americas League) - Soles de Mexicali stunned hosts Cangrejeros de Santurce 75-74 on the opening night of the FIBA Americas League with a game-winning three-pointer by Richard Lopez just 1.6 seconds from the end. At Mario Quijote Morales coliseum of Guaynabo, Richie Dalmau had lined himself up to be the hero when his shot from behind the arc with a little more than a minute remaining tied the contest at 69-69.

    At Mario Quijote Morales coliseum of Guaynabo, Richie Dalmau had lined himself up to be the hero when his shot from behind the arc with a little more than a minute remaining tied the contest at 69-69.

    He then made a pair of free throws with 16 seconds left for a 74-71 lead.

    With just six seconds remaining, Blake Hamilton made the first but missed the second of two free throw attempts for Mexicali but James Penny grabbed the offensive rebound and Lopez ended up knocking down the game-winning three-ball.

    DeJuan Wheat led the scoring for the winners with 23 points on eight of 13 (61.5%) shooting, including five of nine (55.5%) from three-point range.
     
    Cangrejeros' Alex Falcon made six of 16 (37.5%) shots and led his team with 19 points.
