MIAMI (FIBA Americas League) - Puerto Rican side Capitanes de Arecibo began their FIBA Americas League Group B campaign in style as they edged out Mexicans Fuerza Regia 96-93.
The team from Arecibo were aided by good offensive work led by Roger Washington, while Buster Figueroa Sepulveda scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
Despite being on the losing side, Omar Quintero and Gerald Williams both scored 23 points as Fuerza battled all the way through.
The game had a dramatic climax after Capitanes de Arecibo captain Rafael Cruz failed with two free-throws, before Omar Quintero's three-pointer set up a tense finale.
"Although we lost, we played well. We want to win the tournament because we know that we have a great squad. We still have two more chances to continue our dream," said Quintero.
