FIBA AMERICAS CHAMPIONSHIP 2009, MEN
TEAM CHARACTERISTICS
Well balanced team with many strengths. Players do a good job playing roles on offense and defense. Offense is a mixture of transition and patient half court offense. Good spacing, cutting and all players are good passers and drivers. Mix their defenses well, keep the offense off balance.
TRANSITION

Opportunistic on the break as a team. Ball is pushed by perimeter players to get to rim or penetrate for open threes. Posts are active on the break and can finish at the rim. Once ball is advanced it may be shot, penetrated, or thrown in the post. On shot, all players crash the boards hard to rebound and put back.
OFFENSIVE TENDENCIES

Versatile and balanced offensive team. Spread the floor to create driving lanes to the basket. Getting the ball to the post is a priority and posts are good passers back to perimeter. Do a good job of cutting after passing or cutting off the post.
SET PLAYS
- Baseline
screen for perimeter player, wing entry, post isolation on right
block.
- Back
screen for point guard, on ball screen to high low.
OB PLAYS

Use three players in lane to screen for shooter. Shooter receives two single screens to get open on right corner. Posts screen and post up or on ball screen. Ball thrown deep if no options exist.
DEFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS

Mix their defenses between man to man and 2-3 zone. Keep offense off balance by switching back and forth between the two defenses. Man to man is solid with good weak side help and rotation. 2-3 zone is active with good slides and rotations. Players scramble to close out on ball on ball reversals or skips. Good pressure on the ball which forces passes on the perimeter and makes it hard to enter to post.
