    FIBA AMERICAS CHAMPIONSHIP 2009, MEN

    TEAM CHARACTERISTICS
Tough, hard playing team that never gives up. Their aggressive mentality makes them competitive in every. Very good balance between inside and outside play on offense. All players can pass, handle the ball and shoot from the perimeter. This makes their on ball screen and roll game dangerous. Good team defensive concept with weak side support and physical play in the paint area. If the outside shoot isn’t falling, they can resort to various other ways to score.

    TRANSITION
Potent transition team that takes advantage of opponent's mistakes. Guards rebound the ball well on defense and ignite the break. Posts can run and finish at the rim. Very aggressive and quick as they advance the ball up the floor and score baskets as well as draw fouls and get to the line.

    OFFENSIVE TENDENCIES
Can score and cause problems for the defense in many ways. Ball goes through the post on majority of possessions. Once in the post the inside/out game creates difficulty for the defense. Cutters and spot up perimeter players give them many options. Posts are excellent scores from the block or mid post area and draw fouls much of the time. A good balance between inside and outside gives them a good chance to score in each possession.

    SET PLAYS
    1. Corner cut, reversal pass, cross screen for post, screen the screener for shot.
    2. Wing dribble out to post isolation on block. Ball goes in, out, and back into post.
    3. Hand off on top, staggered single down screen on weak side, slip screen.
    4. Corner cut on entry, reversal, shuffle cut, down screen.

    ZONE OFFENSE
4 out/1 in alignment with active posts flashing and posting up. Passes to corner followed by hard basket cuts and players rotate on perimeter. Guards flash into high post and high/low action occurs. Penetration results in open three point shots or second penetration and pitch.

    OB PLAYS
Different looks come from sideline or baseline OB plays. Common actions are flex cut followed by hard post step in and catch in paint. Also, after inbounds pass in made, screening action occurs on weak side for a shooter followed by secondary screening and cutting from strong side.

    DEFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS
Aggressiveness and disruption are the keys to their defense in the half court. Team defense is a combination of man to man, 2-3 and 3-2 zone. Ball pressure, contest shots, close gaps hard on ball penetration looking to create steals or turnovers by the dribbler. Cohesive team defensive system based on ball pressure and good help away from the ball. Will press full court when needed. Forced turnovers result in easy baskets on other end.
